When I think of a butterfly, the words Peace, Magic, and Freedom come to mind.
My butterflies are an expression of our evolution. In the time of mass marketing and a corporate controlled media, most of our society is following someone else's manipulation.
We need to find our own voices again. It's the only way we will move forward in our evolution, the only way we could save our selves and our planet.
Follow Your Art, Always.
BioReynaldo Rivera was born in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, also known as Alphabet City, and grew up in the Lillian Wald Housing Projects. He attended Seward Park High School and began his artistic training in the Boys Brotherhood Republic (BBR).
Although the neighborhood was often violent, it was also the home of such artists as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Miguel Piñero, and Keith Haring, whom Reynaldo befriended. The older artist encouraged Reynaldo to hang out in his studio and watch him work while urging Reynaldo to develop his own artistic style. Like Haring and Basquiat, Reynaldo was a grafitti artist. He soon grew tired of writing on walls and turned his attention to canvas and electronics. He continued to use only spray paint and developed new techniques to fit his emerging visions and explore his artistic urges.
After several years of running his own business and living in Europe, Reynaldo returned to the US, this time to Los Angeles, to pursue his art full time. Continuing to refine his technique, Reynaldo focused his passion on the unique creations you see today — the Butterfly Collection.
